News & Views from our CD

Just a word of caution today. While enjoying a Saturday ride on August 7, we had a close encounter with an automobile.   We had enjoyed a great day of riding, visiting and of course eating. After leaving the Catfish Place in Huntsville we were  preparing to enter I-45 from the service road when a car came over the hill toward us.  There was a yield sign for the automobile but it didn’t appear that he was going to stop for us. He did finally stop several feet past the sign and almost in our lane of traffic. Because I took evasive action at the last minute we avoided a collision. But in the process caused the bike behind us to also have to take immediate evasive action to miss us. With quick reflexes and thinking, Howard was able to get by us without any contact.

I am thankful for the defensive riding training that we have been through over the years. I think it saved us from certain calamity. It never hurts to bone up on our riding skills. Take advantage of any training made available and always be on the alert when riding. Ride safe and have a good time!

(Chapter F Webmaster)

Over the years I have had many opportunities to spend time with the members of "Chapter F".  I'd have to say that although I am some younger than every member of "Chapter F", I have found myself enjoying their company as well as, if not  more than, I do those of my own age!  You are such a great group of people!   I appreciate so much all of you  letting me "crash" so many of your events at times even bringing my kids.   With a 7 year old and a 2 year old it's not quite the right time for me to become a "Winger" but..... someday... maybe.   You have all set an example that I can't help but follow..... right?  Thanks to you all.
When I found out about Wing Ding XXVI  the first thing I did was ask my dad (Everett Wooten)  "Are you going?  I want to go too!".   That was many months ago.  But I guess the seed was planted because when the time came we were all on our way!   We met up with Frank and Pam Lucas along the way for a campground in Denton.  We were later joined by Frank & Pam's son Scott who brought along his wife Jean.
Please take a few minutes to look through some of the photos taken while we were at Wing Ding.   There will be some photos here on the newsletter but be sure to checkout the scrapbook page for more.  Enjoy!

The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) kicked off a Wing Ding like none before on July 4, 2004.  This year the event was 5 days long ending on July 8, 2004.  The annual event was held at the newest of the Gaylord Opryland resorts, "Gaylord Texan".
The "Gaylord Texan" was set among the rolling pasturelands of the town of Grapevine and is located on the southern tip of Lake Grapevine.
There were hundreds of vendors, educational seminars, rider training courses, talent show, motorcycle drill teams and much much more.

I am going to reprint another article from "Rider Magazine" the July 2001 issue.  Clement Salvadori makes a good point about never leaving "learning mode" when your in the saddle.
